Film Thickness Measurement in Oil-Water Pipe Flow Using Image Processing Technique

Abstract:

For the Oil and water two phase flow pipelines with high pressureand strong corrosive medium,the commonly used method of measuring the thickness of liquid film is sensor measurement technology,but it needs to assume the linear relationship between the dielectric constant and the thickness of the liquid film,which often leads to measurement deviation.In order to overcome the deficiency of the sensor measurement technique,the image  processing technology is adopted.The technology is to pretreat the collected flow image and make division so as to quantify the thickness of the liquid membrane near the tube wall and to detect water film at the top and bottom of the tube.In order to obtain the images of the flow of oil and water in the vicinity of the tube wall,the visualization part of the pipeline was designed and installed.Mineral oil(density of 828 kg/m3,viscosity of 220 cP)and water were used in the transparent acrylic acid horizontal pipe with the diameter of D=26 mm and length of L=12 mm to study the dispersive flow of oil and water.The thickness of liquid film ismeasured by using pre-processing enhancement algorithm and comprehensive segmentation algorithm.The experimental results are compared with the simulation results,and the correct conclusions are obtained.
