study on virtual anchor rule of underground pipeline

Abstract:Presently, the safety performance has been thought to be the important issue for long-distance transmission pipeline. Pipeline design and management are based on security evaluation and mechanical analysis. Virtual anchor will be present under the mutual effect between pipeline and earth, which deserves much research. In this paper, basing on earth displacement – stress law, the constraint of underground pipeline is analysized. The virtual anchor section distribution rule is derived according to soil friction characteristics. The virtual anchor length under different scenarios is calculated with CAESAR, and the calculation result is compared with the equation result. The study result will provide reference for pipeline designer to analyse the virtual anchor law and control the VAL distribution method.
