Abstract: As unconventional gas plays gradually important role in global oil and gas exploration, development and transaction, the reserve of unconventional gas is getting more attention as a criteria of asset value. Therefore, how to calculate unconventional gas reserve becomes a spotlight. Up to now, developing activities can only be found in tight sand gas, coal bed methane and shale gas reservoirs. Geological and producing characteristics of unconventional gas reservoirs are different from conventional ones, and each type of unconventional gas has distinct characteristics, which leads to exclusive problems emerging in unconventional gas reserve evaluation. Reliable evaluation methods are expected with analysis on overseas unconventional gas projects. The results are: Methods in conventional gas reserve evaluation are still used in unconventional gas reserve evaluation with more challenges; combination of static and producing performance based methods may result in reliable reserve results.
