Difference analysis on domestic and international standards in surface engineering of gas fields

Abstract:There are more and more co-operate gas field developing projects by domestic and foreign companies, and oversea projects developed by domestic companies. For the surface engineering of these projects, one has to follow not only the Chinese codes, but also the international standards or codes of foreign oil companies. This article reviewed the commonly used International standards such as API, ASME and ISO series, the Chinese national and industry codes, and foreign petroleum company specifications including "design and engineering practice" (DEP) of SHELL and "general specification" of TOTAL. Significant differences were found among these standards. This article analyzed and compared their main differences from aspects of applicable scope, strength calculation, pressure protection, testing and welds inspection. Combined with international cooperation cases, some solutions and suggestions on these existing differences were put forward, so that equilibrium points can be reached between domestic and international standards in the future cooperation projects.
