Calculation of Dynamical Reserves and Water Influx in Water-blocked Gas Reservoir

Abstract:During water influx of active water drive gas reservoir, the water quickly channeled along the fractures or invaded cross them, and then surrounded and sealed the gas in order to separate part of the gas reservoir. In view of this phenomenon, we proposed new method to calculate the dynamic reserves and water influx rate of water drive gas reservoir by building material balance equation which considers gas sealed by water, combined with the automatic fitting method’s optimization algorithm. The new method is able to directly calculate the water drive gas reservoir’s dynamic reserves, gas volume sealed by water and water influx rate through fitting the formation pressure data. Simultaneously, we can use the method to determine the strength of water drive index. Comparative analyses of the results of this new method, pressure drop method and water drive gas reservoir’s curve-fitting method indicate that the new method is accurate as well as reliable.
