The fuzzy-ball drilling fluids application for Coalbed methane horizontal well Yanping

Abstract:Yanping Well 1# is the first horizontal well for coalbed methane at the eastern platform area in the southern part of Yanchuan in Erdos Basin. The destination layer was the 2# coal layer of Shanxi formation. The spud drilling fluid was Bentonite mud. The depth of finished drilling was 140m, with Φ244.5mm surface casing up to a depth of 139m. The second stage drilling fluid was polymer. The depth of finished drilling was 1031m, with Φ177.8mm technical casing up to a depth of 1030m. The third stage drilling fluid was fuzzy-ball drilling fluid, which was used to increase ROP and stabilize the wellbore. The fuzzy-ball drilling fluid for coaled methane consisted of fuzzy-ball proprietary products. The density of fuzzy ball drilling fluid was increased using KCl to enhance its effect of inhibition. The density of drilling fluid was 1.05~1.11 g/cm3, with a shear stress of 2.5~8 Pa, and a ratio of dynamic to plastic viscosity of 0.35~0.85 Pa/mPa•s. It took ten days to achieve the designed well depth of 1729.59m. The finished drilling depth was 1732m, with Φ114.3mm screen up to a depth of 1725.54m. The practice shows that the average ROP of the third spud-in was 5.09m/h. The third spud-in section was stable after soaked for 72 hours and it had no effect on the transmission of signal in the downhole. In addition, the third section successfully docked with Yanping 1-V well in a single process. The well was reamed twice after the completion of drilling. The formation was held for 48 h to make the gel break. Water was used to replace the gel breaker, and the viscosity of gel breaker was close to water.
