Progress in Research on Viscosity Reduction Technologies for Exploitation and Transportation of the Heavy Oil

Abstract:Heavy oil has the characteristics of density, viscosity , less content of light oil and the flow resistance, making the process more difficult for the mining and transportation and increasing the costs of mining and transportation.We should reduct the heavy oil viscosity firstly in order to mine and transport the heavy oil reasonably and economically.Reviewed are the commonly used heavy oil viscosity reduction methods for exploitation and transportation.Analyzed are principles and technologies progress of heating viscosity reduction, chemical viscosity reduction,thin oil blending viscosity reduction, catalytic viscosity reduction and micro-biological viscosity reduction.Compared are characters of viscosity reduction methods in specific conditions of exploitation and transportation. Analysised are that the chemical viscosity reduction occupies a dominant position and take precedence over all others, for its technological process is more simple to achieve and costs are lower.
